College so far has been the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. From practice, to class, to an immense amount of homework, and finally weekend matches, I’ve pretty much wanted to die because I am so tired everyday. If practice doesn’t already do enough to drain me, my mind gets destroyed everyday by all the work that I do and all the classes that I go to. Having time off last week was a gift. I’ve been really sick for the past two weeks with several conditions, including the flu and an infection in my throat, so having time off without having to skip and feel bad afterwards was great. I already missed a test for another class, so I used my time to refresh my memory on the test topics. I probably won’t do well on the exam anyways because I’ve fallen so far behind with the topics but at this point I’m just hoping for the best. I could use a day off in all my classes every week but I’m pretty sure that at this point I’ve exhausted all of my skip days because of my illness. My three a week class, U.S History, does cancel often though. I have had three or four days off this semester already and let me tell you, it has been great. There is nothing better than waking up and seeing a message from your professor saying that he/she won’t be able to make it to class that day. Of course, I hope nothing bad has happened to them but it does feel great to go to sleep right after checking the message. The worst thing that could ever happen on a day off though, is walking to class and seeing a sign on the door that class is canceled. When a professor hits me with that I just cry. Why would you make me go through that? I got up, showered, and walked to your class. You betrayed me. All you had to do was send a simple message, but you have now ruined my life. Enough with the rant though, I love days off and last week was very refreshing.

Second semester
The first semester of college went by very quickly and it certainly had its ups and downs. This past semester i was injured so I could not play the fall tournaments for tennis and I had a bit more free time but unfortunately I chose not to spend it wisely. I procrastinated on many of my assignments and I did not show up to some of my classes regularly. This semester, my shoulder has healed so I will be playing the spring duo matches and I will have much less time. Because I did not get the grades I had planned for before coming to college, I made it my goal to go out and party less and spend more of my time focusing on my schoolwork. I had some downfalls in the past but I am making progress to my goal of attaining a college degree. To assure that I can stay on track, I have surrounded myself with good people who care about me and would not want to see me fail, and as they help me, I keep them on the straight path as well. I am hopeful for this semester, even though I have been working intensively I have also been having a lot of fun. Happiness is one of the key ingredients to a successful life and my endeavors, as well as my friends, are keeping me entertained and overjoyed.
Blog post #2
I thought the discussion about how to write a personal narrative, particularly the lecture Professor Critzer did in class today was very interesting. Before coming to class, I did know how to write a personal narrative because I have read many comics in the past but I never thought about how many stories have a side character who is going through the same experiences as the main character. When we watched “Everybody Loves Raymond” it became clear to me the parallel many comics and T.V shows have between the protagonist and the side characters. When we watched the show, the first thing that came to my mind was the Nickelodeon show “Drake and Josh”. In this series, in nearly every episode, of the main focus of the episode is Drake, similar events to what Drake is going through will occur to Josh. At the climax, Drake and Josh usually help each other get through their difficulties and they end up bonding and getting closer as brothers and best friends. Occasionally, these situations occur in real life as well, and I think I am going to expand on that in my personal narrative. I wasn’t the best kid growing up and many of my friends endured some of the same things that happened to me, nearly at the same time. We always had one person who was a bit more experienced in our group of friends and our downfalls were usually resolved in the end.
